Our Story
In early 2023, our founding team started talking a lot about the game of golf – how much it had grown in the past few years. Nearly a million new golfers had entered the sport since the pandemic. Where was all this growth coming from?
A lot of our male friends were playing more golf, sure, but most were already playing before the pandemic. It turned out that almost all of the new interest in golf originated on the women’s side. ‘Wow’, we thought. “That’s amazing”. But how were all of these new golfers going to be supported in a sport that has a pretty mixed history with women and other minority groups?
Golf can be an intimidating sport – especially for new golfers. It’s incredibly challenging for even most experienced golfers so if you don’t have others to lean on for support, it can be downright discouraging.
We started talking seriously about how we could help. What lane could we fill in the sport that aligned with our expertise? What could we do to make it easier for women to feel confident on the course?
Our background was in sales and marketing and we had even worked with numerous leading golf apparel brands – we also had a deep network in the fashion space.
As we surveyed our peers (ultimately engaging over 1,000 women across a variety of age groups), the common phrase we heard was something to the effect of: “the clothing is so bad”. “Absolutely horrendous”. This wasn’t necessarily surprising on the surface (golf has a long history of questionable clothing) but a lot of the men didn’t share this perspective in recent years. Clearly, times were changing and better new brands and styles were coming on the market but it wasn’t trickling over to the women’s side.
It’s sometimes hard to recall where you were when your ‘AHA’ moment struck but ours was vivid. We knew we needed to take action – and to do so immediately.
Since Day 1, March First has been a collaborative effort across our diverse team of talented marketers and fashion designers. We believe we have the perfect skill-sets across high-fashion, golf, marketing, and operations to make a dent in an industry that so badly needs one.
Our mission is to redefine the world of women's golf apparel and with your support, it will only be a matter of time until this vision becomes a reality.
